A film kitsch mocking satiric story about troubles of a rich man who was looking for a gift for his wife's birthday. The contents of the film is not too important. At the time it was created the picture represented a revolt against the monopoly of the Disney style of cartoons. Jiri Trnka was a revolutionary who by denying of the Disney rules created new rules that showed to hundreds of animators that animated picture does offer numerous ways of expression. The Gift is a classic work of the world animation.
